The detailer assists the design or assistant engineer in directing, coordination and exercising of functional authority for planning, organizing, control, integration and completion of engineering projects for various bridge, building, and construction engineering projects.  The Detailer is also primarily responsible for generation of Detail shop drawings for precast concrete, and structural steel bridge and structure components

Essential Functions:

1.    Provides construction support to contractor clientele.​
2.    Generates and engineering drawings, specifications and related data and drawings to allow for contractors to build or fabricators to manufacture specific components for an engineering project.
3.    Develops design plans in accordance with industry standard practice and individual project specifications/expectations.
4.    Communicates well with clientele and Calderwood Engineering staff to ensure that details are developed that meet with clientele expectations in a prudent and timely fashion.
5.    Reviews detailed drawings for compliance with drawing standards, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
6.  Prepares interim and completion project reports.
10.  Conducts on site inspections and construction oversight as required to meet client and/or project expectations and under the direction of supervisory personnel.
11.  Uses computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop design details.
12.  Handles submittal review for design projects, develops submittals and responds to submittal reviews appropriately for construction projects.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This job operates generally in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Occasionally this job requires work on a construction site.  Safety equipment will be required during those times, adherence to the contractor's safety plan is a requirement.  The use of survey equipment will be required.  The engineer will be required to act in a professional manner in accordance with the expectation of the individual client on each project.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, generally 40 hours per week is expected at a minimum.  Flex hours are available and can be worked out with supervisory staff.


The employee is expected to have a non-commercial driver's license and occasional travel will be required to project sites.

Required Education and Experience:

The employee is expected to have a AS degree in Architectural Engineering Design and Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology or a related field. 

The employee is expected to be Familiar and competent with CADD software packages

Preferred Education and Experience:

It would be beneficial for the employee to have some hands on construction experience including possibly residential light timber framed construction or reinforced concrete construction.
